Creating an Edge

A return to education gives father of three an edge on life

With the cost of higher education tuition continuing to rise, making the decision to start or continue school is a difficult one. For Billy Kemper, Stater Bros. Markets store manager, husband, and father of three young children, the decision was one of the toughest he can remember.

“We all make excuses for ourselves: I work fulltime, I have a family, and of course, money. Being a young family we had to make every dollar stretch,” said Kemper.

As a Service Manager with Stater Bros. Markets, Billy was looking for a personal and professional edge. He was introduced to WAFC’s Retail Management Certification Program and accessed the CGA Educational Foundation’s Tuition Reimbursement Program to help with the financial burden of tuition expenses.

With help and encouragement from his wife and children, along with the support of his extended family at Stater Bros. Markets, Billy was able to attend classes at little to no cost and achieved one of his personal goals of receiving his WAFC certificate.

Billy attributes success in his current position as store manager in Alta Loma to the confidence, knowledge and expertise he gained by his return to education. And he’s not stopping there. Billy has his sights set on much more.

“I plan on continuing my education, moving up in my company and using the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to help my company grow,” Kemper said. “If CGA Education Foundation continues to lead the way, many more students and employees like me will follow, and our industry will keep thriving.”
