CGA Educational Foundation Emergency Operations Plan and Standard Operating Procedures Manual

The CGA Educational Foundation Emergency Operations Plan and Standard Operating Procedures Manual is a 200-page comprehensive emergency preparedness guide that replaces the CGA Emergency Planning and Procedures Manual released in 2000.

The manual is a FREE CGA membership benefit and can be downloaded online. Your membership allows unlimited downloads within your company. Non-CGA member company employees may purchase a copy of the manual for $500 plus tax and shipping and handling. Download a faxable request form to order your copy.

The downloaded version replaces the material in the 2000 CGA Emergency Planning and Procedures Manual red binder. Once downloaded, the manual should be photocopied double-sided and placed in the binder.

The CGA Educational Foundation conducted a one-hour information seminar on using the new EOP Manual. To view this presentation, click here. If you have questions regarding the 2010 Emergency Operations Plan and Standard Operating Procedures Manual, contact Brianne Page or call (916) 448-3545.

In recent years, local District Attorneys and the State of California have begun aggressive enforcement of hazardous waste disposal laws in the retail community. Several high profile, high dollar settlements have led some localities to push for fines as a mechanism to fund ongoing department operations.

hazardous waste compliance toolkit

The grocery industry is considered an easy target given the highly complex and technical nature of the myriad requirements. Definitions in the law make it difficult to determine which products are to be considered hazardous waste and therefore be handled separately.

Often, well-intended or unintentional consumer and employee behavior can lead to significant enforcement problems for grocers. And the high dollar settlements provide a powerful incentive for enforcement entities to prioritize punishment rather than work with the grocery industry to reach a better level of compliance.

CGA has contracted with Environmental Resources Management (ERM), the world’s leading sustainability consultancy, and the Sacramento-based law firm of Downey Brand LLP, to create this comprehensive, user-friendly toolkit for hazardous waste disposal.
